The Rat Race was started in honor of US Navy SEAL Tom Ratzlaff of Green Forest, AR. This event remembers the 31 heroes lost on 8-6-2011 during Extortion 17. Tommy graduated from Green Forest High School as a member of the Class of 1995. He entered the Navy in May 1995 and was shortly thereafter assigned to the USS KIDD. Tom completed his BUD/S training in 1998. He worked his way up in rank and eventually became a member of the elite SEAL Team VI. Tommy was among 31 Americans killed in a Chinook helicopter crashed on August 6, 2011 in Afghanistan. Our race benefits the Ratzlaff Legacy Memorial Inc which is a IRC Section 501(c) (3) tax deductible charity. We offer scholarships to 2 local schools. We also support Greif Counseling Programs at school for children who have lost parents, veterans organizations and local youth activities.
The race will start and end at Green Forest High School in Green Forest, Arkansas on June 18th, 2016.
